The TCG platform by fans for fans

Your cards. Your community.

With our “masterball” project, we want to create a new, shared home for Pokémon fans, collectors, and players. A place to exchange ideas, maintain collections together, organize events, and much more.

The story behind the project

The idea behind masterball began with the desire to start a joint project. The theme of Pokémon, and later also the Trading Card Game (TCG), came at just the right time. We have both been fans from the very beginning, and Pokémon has accompanied us through various phases of our lives.

Start of the hobby

September 2024

Almost exactly one year before masterball started, we played our first TCG matches, which probably sparked the hobby for both of us.

The idea enters to room

August 2025

Our idea to launch a new TCG platform came about in the office when someone shouted across the table, “Hey, should we do this?” “Sure.”

Concept phase

August 2025

Before we jumped straight into prototyping and development, we gathered ideas and concepts together in a few nighttime Discord sessions.

Startschuss

September 2025

Right on schedule, on September 1, 2025, things really got going. The various channels were created and the development instance was set up. For us, this is where the journey officially begins.

Early Access

November 2025

Before the year came to an end, we wanted to give you a glimpse of what we have to offer. We entered our Early Access phase! Most prominently, users can now sign up for access through the waitlist.

Who are we?

We are Sebastian and Lucas, two developers with a background in design and video game enthusiasts who have known each other for a long time through working together at the same employer and now want to leave our mark on the Pokémon community with our project.

Sebastian Kaier

Co-Founder and Developer

I can still remember the packaging of my first Pokémon booster pack: it was the first edition's basic set with a Venusaur on the cover. Back then, I didn't really know what Pokémon were or what they meant. But then it started: I was hooked and, like so many others, I traded and collected cards with my best friend. After elementary school, however, the hype died down and the cards were neatly sorted and stored in the attic.

In 2024, my wife and I took a trip around Japan—and the inevitable happened. The legendary Pokémon 151 set was everywhere in Tokyo and rekindled my enthusiasm for the cards.

Lucas Dietrich

Co-Founder and Designer

When Pokémon came to Germany, I was, like many of us, at the perfect age to be completely captivated by Pokémon. Whether it was the red and yellow editions, the anime, or the first Pokémon cards—I experienced them all and still have some of them at home (unfortunately not everything!). I was very active until Diamond and Pearl; after that, I played less and less, only occasionally playing X/Y and spin-offs.

It wasn't until 2024 that Sebastian got me active again, especially in the area of TCG, which I had completely abandoned after Neo-Genesis.

What sets us apart

Collecting coveted Pokémon TCG cards digitally and offering an online catalog of every set is, of course, no longer a unique selling point these days. With our platform, it was particularly important to us that we didn't just build another website that adds no value — especially since digital collecting can be very time-consuming.

Community

A central factor on our platform is the community. Instead of collecting alone, we focus on a harmonious shared experience of “Pokémon” as a whole.

Gamification

We believe that marking content as collected digitally should feel rewarding. That's why a deep reward system is essential to our platform.

Multilingualism

One of our initial motivations for creating our own platform is that there are hardly any websites available in different languages. That is why masterball was designed as a multilingual site from the outset.

Design

With our shared background in design, it was only natural for us to want our platform to stand out visually and in terms of user guidance.

Features and Roadmap

Since masterball is currently still in Early Access, its range of functions is still limited. However, we have lots of ideas for the platform and would like to give you an insight into the initial release phases and what we hope to have developed by then.

Multilingual cards, sets, and UI

Do you collect cards in different languages? Perfect! We offer cards in German, English, and Japanese. The platform itself supports German and English. Just choose your preference!
